Corner Bet: Is It Worth Making This Bet in Roulette?

We previously discussed that there are two main types of roulette bets – inside and outside bets. The outside ones are all bets that do not include betting on a concrete number (or set of numbers).

If you place a bet on a number, it means you’re making an inside bet, since numbers are physically inside the betting area, encircled by outside bets. So far, we’ve covered several types of inside bets, including a straight bet, split bet, and street bet.

Therefore, if you’re interested in reading more about them, make sure to check out our previous articles.

This time, we’ll focus on another great type of inside bet, which is often referred to as a corner bet. Judging by the name, you could probably guess what it is.

Since we review roulette bets in detail, we’ll say a couple of interesting facts about this one as well. Read on!

What Is a Corner Bet?

Whenever you place your chips between four numbers, you’re making a corner bet. For example, if you place a chip between numbers 1, 2, 4 and 5, it will be on the corner of all four numbers, since they are all next to each other on the roulette table.

Therefore, instead of placing your chip on a single number, just move it in the direction that will stand on the corner and incorporate four options.

The win probability for this bet may differ depending on the type of the roulette you play. The chance of winning in European roulette is a bit higher (10.8%) compared to American roulette (10.5%).

The payout, in this case, is 8 to 1, meaning you’ll receive $80 if you bet $10. Although this bet doesn’t have as high a payout as a straight bet, it still offers a better hit probability.

Should You Make a Corner Bet?

Just like every other inside bet, a corner bet only depends on the element of luck, so you should make it if you feel that the ball will land on some of the four numbers you’re about to wager on. In other words, there are no ultimate strategies that can help you with this type of bet.
