What Is The Fibonacci Betting System In Roulette?

We continue to review roulette betting strategies, and the next popular one is called simply Fibonacci. To explain it, we must learn a bit about maths and history.

Leonardo Bonacci, aka Fibonacci, was a famous mathematician who lived during the Middle Ages in Italy. One of the most popular things he did was to introduce Arabic numerals to Europeans.

In other words, instead of using Roman numerals (I, II, III, IV, V, X, etc.), he recommended using 0-9 as he considered it more practical. Apart from being more practical in every possible sphere, it saved a lot of time when writing the numbers down. Writing 1888 was much better than writing MDCCCLXXXVIII.

However, the other popular thing he invented was the famous Fibonacci sequence. Simply put, every number in the sequence is the sum of the previous two numbers. Therefore, if we start with, say 1, the next number in the sequence will also be 1. However, the third number would be 2 as 1+1 = 2. The fourth number would be 3 (2+1), and the fifth number would be 5 (3+2), and so on.

The idea for the Fibonacci strategy in roulette is to apply that very same pattern to your betting. However, there’s a catch.

You only need to increase your bet if you lose and decrease it every time you win. For example, if your starting bet is 5, and you lose once, your next bet will also be 5. However, if you lose for the second time, you will have to bet 10 (5+5).

Winning at this point would mean that you have to go back to betting 5, and losing means betting a total of 15.

Useful Strategy?

Does this betting strategy work? Well, according to many professionals, it’s no different than any other progressive betting system. In fact, it’s much less effective than, say, the martingale strategy. However, it’s a fun system that can make your roulette sessions rather interesting.

Needless to say, this strategy is only effective on 50/50 bets such as black or red, odd or even, and 1-18 or 19-36. In other words, this system cannot work if you bet on individual numbers.

Learning how to play roulette is not difficult. As soon as you understand the basics, roulette becomes a rather entertaining game to play. However, learning about betting systems is definitely the next level in upgrading your style of play.

Yet, you need to take into account that roulette is still a game of chance, and that no betting system can actually help you beat the game. Therefore, you have to rely on the element of luck to get the best out of it, and accept that you will end some sessions with less money than you had at the start.
