Seven Mistakes to Avoid When Playing Online Roulette

Playing roulette is great fun and when done right it can be profitable too, with just a little bit of luck. However, many players make some simple mistakes which should be avoided if you want to improve your odds of winning.

1)      Double Zero

Avoid the double zero at all costs. Standard US roulette has a zero AND a double zero and playing this version of roulette as opposed to one with just a single zero effectively doubles the casino’s advantage. NEVER play double zero roulette.

2)      Top Line

If you ignore point 1 then at least have the sense to avoid the top line bet, which covers 00, 0, 1, 2 and 3. This is the WORST bet in roulette, the only one where the ratio between the odds and your chances of winning is worse than the standard casino house edge.

3)      Martingale System

The Martingale system is a method of staking in which you double your stake after a loss and in theory this always delivers a win as no matter how many times you lose, when you do eventually win you’ll be in profit. However, unless you have infinite time, money and maximum bets, you WILL lose using this system. Guaranteed! Avoid like the plague!

4)      All Spins Are Independent

Many roulette novices think that if red comes up three times in a row, then next spin is more likely to be black, or if number 6 comes up twice in a row it can’t possibly come up on the very next spin. But the roulette wheel has no memory and the past has no bearing on the future.

5)      Systems Don’t Work

Like the Martingale, all other (legal) systems also don’t work and non can get around the fact that the casino has an edge. Play a system for fun and potential short term profit but NEVER believe you can beat the game and NEVER pay for a system.

6)      Don’t Chase Losses

If you lose playing roulette, don’t chase your losses trying to win back your money. Bad luck happens, accept it and come back another day, rather than losing more than you can afford to lose.

7)      Quit Whilst You’re Ahead

When you win, accept you’ve been lucky and walk away with cash in your pocket. Set a target and if you reach it quit with a smile on your face rather than getting greedy and ending up losing it all.
